We all know that in the last few years there have been protests about Cristoforo Colombo: statues of him have been destroyed, and there is a proposal of renaming Columbus Day as Indigenous Peoples Day. The time is right to re-examine history through a documentary and a fiction film entitled “Columbus on Trial”. The film screening and the discussion are hosted by the Calandra Italian American Institute.

To register for the screening via Zoom on August 27 at 4:00 pm: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_FIEG4rjmSqi8EGsbn71Gyg

This letter, written by the Mayor of Petrella Tifernina is placed on the back of a framed picture of Sante as a child.
The picture has been presented to Matteo at a reception in his honor to commemorate his first visit as a distinguished speaker in the regional capital, Campobasso, 2002. The letter says: “A very special thank, from the Mayor and the City Council, to our fellow citizen Sante Matteo. Yesterday he was an emigrant, today he is a protagonist. ‘…a spread spore of our Italianness.'”
